In order to teach this idea in a classroom I thought it would be beneficial to provide a simplified Sample Lesson Plan.

Sample Lesson Plan

Procedure
  1. In order to get the students thinking about the subject, the teacher will have the words Intellectual Property and Copyright Issues on the board. The Teacher will get the students to think about this for five minutes. Then the teacher will bring the students back together to create a mind map of the subject.
  2. The teacher will now teach the students about Intellectual Property and Copyright laws by defining the terms "Intellectual Property" and "Copyright". The teacher will then put up resources that the students can research for the next part of the class. The students will be allowed to search these websites to complete their knowledge of these terms.
  3. The students will be given a handout with a certain kind of document on it (ie. an essay). The students in groups of four will be asked to explain why their example is a form of intellectual property. They will then individually explain an example of when they have come into contact with Copyright Infringement.
Materials and Assessment
  1. White board or SMART Board. Assess the prior knowledge of the students by the ideas they bring for the classroom Mind Map. This will help the teacher understand the gaps in the students' learning.
  2. White board or SMART Board, Computer and Projector, resources (as seen in Additional Resources). The students will assess their own knowledge and decide what they need to supplement with the help of the resources provided.
  3. Examples of Intellectual Property for each group in the class. Teacher will assess the group work being done and afterwards assess the individual reflections done on student experience with Copyright Infringement.
